January, 2012

Happy (still somewhat) New Year!

Wow! What happened to January?!
One minute, there I was, putting away the decorations, sweeping up the fir needles, doing everyone's New Year's readings, and daydreaming with my cool new calendars, and then .. suddenly, it's almost February already!  Didn't January used to be one of the longest, draggiest months of the year??
It's especially embarrassing, you see, because the fabulous Theresa Reed, aka The Tarot Lady, chose WINGS as the Best Newsletter in Tarot!  As a result, we have a bit of a crowd that's been patiently waiting for their new subscription to WINGS to actually begin.  And I almost let this whole month get away.
So I am waving madly at all the new folks (Hi! Thanks for waiting! I am thrilled you are here!!!), and getting this out to you before the clock strikes midnight, lest I turn into a pumpkin!
Wishing you and yours all the best for a prosperous, fantastic New Year!

And again - Welcome New Subscribers!
I want to send out another warm welcome to the 72  new subscribers that have joined us since the December issue went out.  ( Zoinks!) Thank you so much for checking out WINGS; it's great to have you here!
I hope you will be inspired to invite your friends, or please forward a copy to them, if you wish!  The more, the merrier!
2012: The Year of the Hierophant
As most folks who've been around me for awhile know, one of my favorite aspects of the Tarot is how, based upon your birthdate, the cards reveal certain personality traits and even help you understand more about the patterns of your life’s lessons. I call this your Tarot Profile.

In a similar way, every year has a “personality” that corresponds to the Tarot’s Major Arcana (the trumps).  Of course, there are many cultures who number their years differently, but for our purposes, we will stick with the generally accepted Western dates.

The year 2012 has some challenging but hopeful aspects.  It is the second in a two-year cycle that deals with power and authority issues.  2011 was a year of the Emperor, Card IV in the Major Arcana, representing patriarchy, power, boundaries, establishing order, and creating stability.  He represents the highest level of worldly authority.

In our country’s political arena, we certainly saw the shadow side of this influence, as Congressional gridlock became more deeply entrenched, and some of the most important issues were subsumed by partisan contests of power and dominance.

For better or worse, we now move to the next Major card, V, The Hierophant. This is an archetype whose energies revolve around tradition, education, and he is the highest representative of religious authority.

This could be a great year to resolve family issues, including the decision of whether to start a family of your own.  It is also an auspicious time if you are thinking of going back to school, or upgrading your training and professional credentials, for The Hierophant is a teacher as well as a leader.
This year the focus may be on inner growth and development.  Take plenty of time for contemplation, meditation, and perhaps exploring new spiritual practices, especially those who have a strong lineage of discipline or rigor.

The Hierophant Year is also an ideal time to implement creative ideas.  In fact, making your dreams a solid reality will add to the much-needed security and stability that can be a dominant theme during this cycle.

This year will have its share of challenges, however. Fanaticism, surrender of our personal boundaries to a “guru,” or to rigid dogma and impersonal orthodoxy, or even martyrdom are some of the shadow aspects of this card.
In Tarot, the Five’s point to some stress and adversity.  Such difficulties may be exactly what is needed, though, to break through excess authority, habitual “should’s” and limiting, dogmatic beliefs.

However, it should be remembered that the Hierophant archetype bestows upon us the qualities of the inner teacher who is able to confront, face and incorporate the spiritual knowledge gained from major tests and challenges in life.
Once we have embraced the blessings and lessons of the Hierophant this year, we will have the wisdom to make the choices that will be presented to us in 2013, which will be a year of The Lovers.

The Tarot Game
by Jude Alexander

For Tarot enthusiasts who are already enlightened, especially those of us in Triangle Tarot and Friends, or that got to play with it at the 2011 Readers Studio or BATS 2011, we are already raving fans.
But if you haven't had a chance to check it out, you have GOT to get this brilliant new offering to the world of Tarot: The Tarot Game!

Jude Alexander is a Tarot adept, teacher, and game enthusiast who has a degree in Theatre Arts and has guided transformational play for individuals and women’s groups.
She designed The Tarot Game based on her own 25-year Tarot journey, as a way to give others a playful environment in which to practice intuitive Tarot and strengthen soul connections.
The Tarot Game consists of a game board, 78 cards containing keywords for each Tarot card, 3 dice, 9 polished stone game pieces, 90 blessing coins, and laminated reading sheets that players fill out during the game.  You provide your own deck(s). The more the merrier!
It can be played alone or in a group. It can be approached from a number of levels, such as a way to teach or deepen your knowledge of the Tarot, to practice storytelling, to receive insight on a question, or to open hearts and spirits with friends in a gentle, but profound manner.
Last summer, our Meetup group had the honor of meeting with Jude live via Skype. She graciously guided us through the easy steps for learning to play. Like the best games, learning is simple, but the rewards of the playing are infinitely varied and rich.
It was standing room only and one of the most magical, fun nights in our history.  Jude's rich wisdom and beautiful interpretations woven throughout the game are pure gold.

Our group was utterly enchanted with the game!  So much, in fact, that several of our members have begun meeting regularly to play with each other.
Highly recommended!  Ask your local store to carry it, or support Jude even more by ordering directly from her!

Astrological Tidbits
February brings changes and dreamy times ahead!
After the huge energy on Jan. 23 with the Aquarius New Moon that also saw Mars go retrograde, the next big story is that on Friday, Feb. 3, Neptune moves into its home sign of Pisces, where it will remain for the next 13 years.
Lynn Hayes tells us, "With Neptune moving into Pisces, there is the potential for tremendous spiritual transformation, but also mass delusion such as has never been seen before.  The last time Neptune entered Pisces was in February 1848, shortly after its discovery in 1845. 1848 is the year that the gold rush began in California, leading one reporter to complain that everyone in the state was under the spell of gold fever.  This kind of fever, or mass hysteria, is emblematic of Neptune in Pisces."
Rick Jawer of StarIQ agrees, noting that this visit will "inspire faith and stimulate our fantasies. The planet of compassion in sympathetic Pisces softens the barriers between us, spurring compassion and arousing our charitable instincts. Dreams without borders dissolve differences among individuals and can even unite religions in a growing desire to reconnect with the soul of humanity."

Meantime, if you have been going through Saturnine frustrations, I am sorry to tell you this might only be the beginning.  Saturn, the planet of work, discipline and time goes retrograde on Tuesday, February 7 until June 25. Do your homework, don't cut corners, and be prepared to work hard. This will be a time to cultivate discipline, patience and self-restraint. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

And as if that wasn't enough planetary drama, Feb. 7 is also the Full Moon of fiery Leo. Plus, that same day, Venus moves into Aries, where she is likely to stir up recklessness and impatience. There are creative sparks possible, too, however. Just bring along a bit of moderation if possible!

Romance is supposed to be in the air on Feb. 14, but Lance Ferguson warns, "Early morning hours are the best of the day for priority calls, business and letting your Valentine know you love them." After that, there are a couple of difficult squares, and a void of course Moon period, so stick to routine, and keep it low-key.
The Sun moves into the sign of Pisces on Feb. 18. Jeff notes, "The Sun's entry into the last sign of the zodiac is a step into synthesis. Its presence in Pisces reminds us that the walls that keep us apart from one another are merely illusions. We are all one in the sea of consciousness where the Fishes swim...Reconnecting with spirituality, nature and one another are its sweetest rewards."

Finally, the New Moon in Pisces arrives on February 21. Lance tells us, "A touch, or maybe a boatload, of confusion is likely to appear as a New Moon in Pisces that is conjunct dreamy Neptune in the heavens becomes exact at 4:35 pm Tuesday afternoon. Again, this is the first time this has happened in the heavens since 1860–1861.

"A New Moon in Pisces invites you to plant seeds that will bring a dream into reality in the months ahead. Neptune adds the gift of imagination and creativity to your thinking. But Neptune also brings the urge to escape through drink and drugs and the urge to ignore responsibilities in some folks. Every planet has light and dark habits -— the choice is always ours to make."
Indeed it is!
May the stars shine brightly for you in the days ahead!

Owl MailThank you all for your lovely holiday notes and well wishes in December!
It was especially terrific knowing that so many of you were joining in our global prayer circle for Solstice/Christmas advent. I am so grateful for your kindness.
In other mail, I received this question and request:
Do you know of any intuitive studies surrounding ADD?  I am having a battle supreme with it and am seeking out alternative knowledge to shore myself up.  Please keep me in your thoughts as I am undergoing incredible transformation in my life.  You know how that can be.
Bright blessings to you.
 - D.S., via email
I am so sorry to hear you are struggling, D. If it is any consolation, you are not alone, not by a long shot. Thank you for your question.
This is certainly not my area of expertise, but personally, especially in cases of adult onset ADD, I believe a contributing factor is the massive evolutionary shift we are in the midst of.
In particular, I am hearing from people that are struggling with a "bleed-through" of other wavelengths of reality, and a hyper-speed of energy and time around us.
Sensitive people, especially, are picking up on this to the point of overwhelm, making it very hard to focus on their own goals and interests.  And there are studies that point to changes in brain physiology as a result of our plugged in, overstimulated lifestyles.
It is, in fact, one of the reasons I began teaching my Tools for Transition classes (which will be resuming. More next time!).
I recently asked some of my colleagues and they agreed with my own anecdotal observations, but did not know of any actual studies that are taking place.
If any of you reading this do, or have suggestions for resources for her, please get in touch! I would love to hear more!
And thank you again, D. We will all be sending you good energy and support, because we are all in this together!
Remember - if you’d like to write, comment, ask me a question or make an observation, I’d love to hear from you. Naturally, before I print your comments here, I reserve the right to edit. Just email me! Thanks!
A Special Treat!
While I am still sorting out the dates for the next group of my Tools for Transition classes and some other delicious goodies, I wanted to let you know that right now, I have a special offer on my website.
As you may know, I am very interested in the Tarot profile and am actually on a not-so-secret mission to see to it that people know their Tarot Soul Card the same way they know their astrological Sun Sign!
So I invite you to take a ridiculously short questionnaire by going here
Here's why I am doing it: In reviewing my sales last year for the Soul Card kits, I saw some surprising disparities. So few of this Soul card would be sold, yet so many more purchased that kit!  So now I am super curious to see  who, among all the cards, is most likely to weigh in if given this chance.
As my thank you for doing this, you will be able to download my article, The Soul Card Overview, which will introduce you to figuring out and understanding some of the characteristics of the different Soul Cards.
Again, this will probably take you less than a minute and you get a gift for your trouble!  Thanks so much!
Let’s stay in touch!
I specialize in helping visionaries, healers, artists and innovators thrive in changing times. If you seek inspiration, practical wisdom, and solid tools for living an extraordinary life, my classes, workshops, and personal sessions will help you predict your future by creating it.

Looking for a convenient appointment time?  Now, it's incredibly easy!  For a phone appointment, drop by here and then "lock in" by going to PayPal afterwards.
Or if you are able to meet in person, you can see my availability here.
For further information, you can also visit my website or phone me at (919) 620-7525.
Live in balance * Focus your creativity * Manifest your vision.
As this New Year unfolds, and life begins to stir again, I am so grateful to know that you and I are journeying together.  Thank you, for the light only you can bring!
Blessings,
  ~ Beth
