Winds of Change

What interesting times!

As you have probably heard, on April 16, the area where I live was hit with at least 28 confirmed tornadoes, leaving unimaginable destruction and lives lost.

Our home in Durham was thankfully spared, but I happened to be in Raleigh that afternoon as one went skipping through town.  It passed right overhead as I was giving readings at the bookstore I visit twice a month.  We were all very blessed to be okay; it did not touch down at the Dancing Moon, but it demolished homes and businesses mere blocks away.

After the storms, the skies cleared, the world sparkled, and Spring's renewal and beauty resumed in a startling contrast to the howling darkness and devastation just hours before.

It was a reminder that life can turn on a dime.  The winds of change can come, seemingly out of nowhere, and shake our foundations to the core.  (And yes, if you'd like to know, all day prior to the tornadoes, people were getting The Tower in their readings).

In the wake of the storms, we have seen how such dramatic situations bring out the hero in each of us.  Story after story has emerged, how in big deeds and small, everyday people have risen to the occasion, shining in their most Divine ways.

There are winds of change blowing all around each of us these days. May they be kind to you, and inspire you to discover the heroic gifts that only you can share.

Wishing you a peaceful Spring,

ps: My prayers go out to the folks in other places (like St. Louis) also facing big challenges from tornadoes, drought, and/or other severe weather.

pps: while it can sometimes feel a little dorky to take cover during each and every weather warning, we never know when taking those small, simple precautions will be the one time that saves our life.

What Would You Ask
jpeg

This month's WINGS is going to be rather abbreviated, as I have been in a mad dash, getting ready for my big annual trip to NYC for the Tarot Readers Studio.

Hosted by The Tarot School of Ruth Ann and Wald Amberstone, it is, to my knowledge, the biggest, most internationally recognized assembly of Tarot readers, publishers, creators, collectors, authors, scholars and aficionados in the world.

I am thrilled to be partnering this year with my good friend, the awesome Joanna Powell Colbert, who will be offering her Gaian Tarot Collectors Edition decks (and other beautiful items) for the last time before the mass-market release of the deck in September, by Llewellyn Publishing.

She has kindly invited me to join her at her table, so I can offer my Soul Card kits. The big news is that, for the first time, I will have both Waite-Smith Soul Card blends and kits specially created for the Soul Cards of the Gaian Tarot.

Anyway, I mention all this because the Readers Studio offers people such amazing access to the most renowned "rock stars" of the Tarot world.

So, I was wondering what YOU would ask them.

I don't mean, like if you were having a reading

I mean, if you were relaxing over Appletinis with James Wells or Mary Greer, what would you ask them?  If you could chat with the fabulous Rachel Pollack, Robert Place, James Ricklef, Barbara Moore, Caitlin Matthews, Corrine Kenner, Lon Milo DuQuette, James Wanless, or Paul Quinn (the list goes on and on!), what would you like to know?  About Tarot? About their careers?  About Mystery in general? Or .. anything?

Send me your thoughts. If I get an opportunity, I will ask  your question and post their answers here next month!

Avoiding Sticker Shock at the Gas Pump

With gas prices in many places now tipping over that crucial $4.00/gallon mark, and some experts saying we're looking at $6/gal. by the end of the summer, many of us are feeling a serious crunch.

While it seems obvious that investing in a fuel efficient vehicle is the single biggest way to keep the blues at bay, that's just a start.

The number one (and easiest!) way to improve your vehicle's fuel efficiency is through careful car maintenance. Here are three tips to help you.

1. Keep the tires inflated properly. This one is simple and a potential lifesaver. Under-inflated tires waste fuel and wear out the tire tread. AAA estimates that a motorist who drives an average of 12,000 miles annually on tires that are under-inflated by only 5-8 pounds is wasting up to 50 gallons of gasoline.

Eighty-five percent of Americans do not properly check tire inflation. As a result, tire experts speculate that 2.8 billion gallons of gas are wasted by U.S. drivers each year simply because they're driving on under-inflated tires. It's also important to check your tires regularly for alignment and balance.

2. A well-tuned engine burns less gas. Get regular tuneups and follow through with routine maintenance. The right parts and fresh oil keep your engine happy and less thirsty for gas.

3. Get the junk out of the trunk. A weighed-down car uses more fuel. For every extra 250 pounds your engine hauls, the car loses about one mile per gallon in fuel economy. Carry only the basic emergency equipment and items you really need.

I'll have some more easy ideas next month!

Every little bit makes a world of difference.

In April, our journey through the themes of the astrological birth houses continues. This month, we've been discussing the Fourth House. Ruling matters to do with the home, it seems a perfect time to consider what kind of energetic template our home is and how it affects us in the more public areas of our lives.

Of course, there's always lots more going on than I can post here. I mainly try to keep it a lively, interactive place, where your voice and views are welcome. So I hope you'll stop by, or subscribe by RSS or email -  and share this journey with us.

It's where you can always find a "little bit of magic every day!"
Networking Spotlight on:
Healing Through Organization
with Julie Seibert

Speaking of our homes being a template for our energy, here is a service we all could use!

You have probably heard of those organizing services that come to your distraught home or office and help you clear out the clutter.  There are several excellent such services in the Raleigh-Durham Triangle, as in most metro areas.

But what you might not know about is people like Julie Seibert, who also focus on ensuring that both the process and the final transformation to a newly streamlined life are grounded in eco-friendly practices.

In fact, she is SO good at this, she won the prestigious 2011 NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers) Los Angeles’ Green Award for Most Eco-Friendly Organizing Service.

Julie combines her humor, compassion, knowledge, and brilliant skills to solve the unique organizing challenges each individual client has. She specializes in transforming overwhelmed lives with fresh new ideas and customized plans that can create peaceful, sustainable and productive environments.

She notes that her work as an eco-organizer "goes beyond recycling; it is about incorporating green strategies into not only organizing, but also lifestyle."

Although her hands-on services are currently only available in the Raleigh-Durham area and in her family's hometown of Wheeling, West Virginia, her website, blog, and newsletters are a gold mine of great ideas that can help you feel more serene, in control, and environmentally gentle, starting right now!

Congratulations to Julie for being recognized and honored for her excellence by her peers!  I hope you'll get in touch with her and make the world a much cleaner, greener place - starting in your own home or office!

Tools For Transition

It has been an amazing Spring so far, teaching my beloved Tarot classes for the public, as well as my private workshops I call Tools for Transition.

Because they are held at my home, Tools for Transition workshops are quite limited in size. So the announcements are not appearing on my regular website pages, or being advertised to the general public.

In fact, both the Develop Your Intuition course and my Guides and Allies class filled up right away. Due to the terrific response, I plan to offer an encore of both, if there is enough interest.

Meantime I am delighted to let you know that registration is now open for the following:

Working with the Magical Energies of Plants and Herbs Sunday, May 22 12:30-5:30pm.  Only five seats remain at this time.

Save these dates; they will start enrolling soon:
Tools to Enhance and Deepen Your Daily Practice - Sunday, June 26 1-6pm. Details coming soon.
Advanced Psychic Skills – Protection, Divination and Self Care 12:30-6pm,  Saturday, July 9. Details coming soon.

More offerings will be coming soon, and they're especially for subscribers to WINGS, so watch your mail! To make sure you don't miss out, email me and ask to be in my early-bird announcement list!

ps: you asked for it and I heard you!  Online versions are in development for non-local folks, too (look for these later this summer).

I hope you had a chance to check out my debut article for The Meta Arts Magazine.  New articles will be published the first of every month.

In May's Illuminated Journey, I tackle the issue of unsavory Tarot readers; something you long-time WINGS subscribers know I dedicated several columns to some time back.

If you have ideas you'd like me to discuss, I'd love to hear from you!
Owl MailThank you for the lovely email I got from Saffron in the Pacific Northwest, who emailed me her "Wordless Wednesday" photo of Springtime returning. It was a beautiful picture of Japanese Andromeda (Pieris) in bloom.

This tiny space would not do it justice, but you can take a look at this pretty shade plant by going here. Thank you again, Saffron!

Also, once again, I meant my offer in my main article this month, "What Would You Ask?"

I invite you to email me, and if I have a chance, I really will ask your questions to the famed Tarot person of your choice!
