The Sweet Night

Happy Holidays!
Are all your preparations finished?  Mine most certainly are not. But somehow I am not too worried about it this year.

I have managed to turn down the volume of the consumer frenzy this year, and am focusing on really connecting to this time of the deepest dark.

As you know, the Winter Solstice has been a magical time of awe, hope and joy for many thousands of years, in cultures around the world.  The word "Solstice" comes from the Latin “solstitium.” Sol means "sun" and -stitium is "a stoppage." For several days, in fact, it appears that the sun’s arc from sunrise to sunset is unchanged.

The long, steady darkening that we have watched ever since mid-June, appears to pause... and then.... one day, the sun will rise a little more to the north east, and the sunset waits just a little longer. Soon, there will be no doubt that the days are lengthening.  So even now, as we enter the doorway to Winter, we can know by this pause that Spring is a certainty.

So despite the busy-ness and hubbub of shopping, errands, parties, greetings and travels, I urge you to find a moment or two, to participate in the slow unfolding of this miracle.  Notice how it feels as the sun goes down; allow yourself to savor the darkness before you turn on the lights.  There is great loving in the Dark face of the Divine. There is a rare peace, comfort and healing that is given, when we embrace this quiet, sweet Solstice time.

Blessings,

A Love Letter

Dearest YOU,

This month, instead of writing my usual article about the Tarot, I want to write directly to .. you!

You see, sometimes I get really caught up in everything it takes to run my business.

Yes, it's true. Although my profession is Priestess, mystic, intuitive, and Tarot reader/writer/teacher, it's not all incense and candles.

Like any other entrepreneur, behind the yummy parts where I am actually working with my clients, there are long hours of.. um.. well, you know.. work!

Just like other self-employed business owners, I am the secretary, receptionist, first tier of tech support, janitor, bookkeeper, sales and marketing department, errand-runner and heaven knows what-all else on any given day.

But as we prepare to close the books on this year -- the sumptuous, nurturing Empress Tarot year --  I want to stop a moment and write you a love letter.

Have I told you lately how honored and blessed I am to be able to serve you?  Do you have any idea how your stories really do steal into my heart (last month's discussion about boundaries notwithstanding)?

I wish I could write poetry that would tell you how much  I care about your challenges, your breakthroughs, and your amazing beauty as you journey through it all.

After spending so much of my life in "Cubicle Nation," I am happy beyond belief to be able to make my living by helping you find your own true path, and much sooner than I did!

I am smitten with helping you blaze your trails towards who and what resonates for you as truest love. I am passionate that I might lend a hand as you head for your highest destiny.

Wow. What more could anyone ever ask for?

You are the beauty, the treasure, the great hope of our transitioning human family.  I am so crazy grateful to be given the gift of bearing witness and listening to your process, and shedding a little light for you, as you reach for the stars.

Thank you with all my heart.
Love and more love always!

Green Living
Ten Easy Ways to Make It A Greener Holiday!

1. For holiday parties, use reusable glass or plastic ware, and cloth napkins.

2. When shopping for gifts and holiday food, carry your own canvas bag or backpack, or reuse shopping bags.

3. Instead of consumer products, give gifts of your time or expertise. Consider gift certificates - for restaurants, Tarot readings (I can suggest a fabulous one!), movies, babysitting, etc. Or give edible items such as baked goods.

4. If you buy gifts, look for durable and re-usable items and resist the latest "fad." Reduce your carbon footprint and support your community by purchasing gifts from local vendors, or that were made locally. Consider gifts made from recycled materials.

5. Wrap gifts in fabric, comics, or your own decorated, reused paper. Create special cloth gift bags or decorated boxes that can be reused and traded among family members each year.

6. Make gift tags or decorations from last year's greeting cards.

7. Reuse recyclable and recycled-content boxes and packing for mailing gifts.

8. Consider alternatives to a cut tree, such as a live tree, decorated house plant, or artificial tree.

9. Recycle as much holiday waste from your household
as your local ordinances allow (check with your city or county).

10. Make a New Year's resolution to buy recycled products for your office and at home.

Remember -
Every little bit makes a world of difference.

A brief correction --
The "Tools for Transition" announcement I mentioned  here last month has been slightly delayed. Please be on the lookout for a separate announcement coming soon! I am very excited about this new direction and I hope you will be, too!
jpegDecember on my Blog

jpeg

It's been another very busy blogging month!  There have been some beautiful and courageous discussions as we draw to the close of our journey of Gratitude, working with the Prayer Beads.  And there are so many magical days in December to celebrate - the Halcyon Days, the Sagittarius New Moon, Mother Night, and of course, the Winter Solstice Full Moon!

Perhaps most importantly, though, countless folks around the world have joined us for our annual Advent/Solstice Sun Wheel prayer circle. This practice is spreading to many other sites and blogs, too, and I hope that in years to come, you will continue to be a part of this peaceful, inclusive ritual.

And I hope you'll stop by my blog throughout the days ahead, or subscribe by RSS or email -  it's where you can always find a "little bit of magic" every day!
Let’s stay in touch!

Astrological Tidbits
 Dec. 2010

We have been under the influence of Mercury retrograde since Dec. 10 and challenges in communications, technology, and travel will not begin to ease up and straighten out until it stations direct on Dec. 30.

Meantime, we are under the influence of a spectacularly rare Solstice Lunar Eclipse (lunar eclipses can only happen on the Full Moon, so it's that, too). The last time this lineup occurred was in 1703.

Plus, it is aligned within three degrees of the Galactic Core - the birthplace of our galaxy. As you can imagine, astrologers everywhere are quite excited about this. Lynn Hayes explains it as clearly and succinctly as just about anyone here.

On the 20-21 of December, there is a challenging square between retrograding Mercury (which is moving back into the volatile sign of Sagittarius) with Uranus and Jupiter. Astrologer Molly Cliborne suggests that we should travel before the square, or else let it pass before heading off for the holidays.

Astrologer Lara Owen notes that on Dec. 26, the Sun conjuncts Pluto, and although this occurs once a year, it can stir the pot somewhat by uncovering secrets and even triggering violence.

She suggests that "The best way to use this energy is to take a bit of quiet time and allow the light of awareness to fall on your hidden self and on suppressed or neglected dreams and longings."

And one final caveat.  On Dec. 29, right as Mercury prepares to shift gears and go direct again (which is the most common time for things to go awry), we also have Mars squaring Saturn. Lara explains that this can bring about, "an irritable, gnarly energy. And also a signature for engine failure or breakdown. If you have to go out in the snow, take supplies and a spade!"

All that said, bear in mind that the New Year will commence with no planets retrograde.  The delays, setbacks and frustrations that have been all too common for months should now give way to a much better flow.

And with another intense eclipse (this time, solar) coming Jan. 4, it is definitely going to be "interesting times!"

It was surprisingly quiet this month (or am I possibly still losing emails due to my computer crash?).

Speaking of which, if you have written to me in the last 30 days or so, and have not gotten a response, please try again!  I am still sorting things out!

Remember - if you’d like to write, comment, ask me a question or make an observation, I’d love to hear from you. Naturally, before I print your comments here, I reserve the right to edit. Thanks!

Thank you again for making me a part of your day.

May your holidays be full of cheer, generosity, and love.
