...Green in the Workplace
We all try to lower our impact on the environment in our homes, but there is a lot you can do at the office, too. For instance ...
* Did you know that laptops use 50% less energy than desktop computers when they’re plugged in (and only 1% when running on batteries)? So if you have a choice, go with a laptop and save.
* If your copier, printer, fax and computers have a sleep or stand-by mode, make sure it has been selected. It will automatically “wake up” when you need to use it.
* Of course, you recycle paper at work, right? But if used pages have one blank side, save them and use them for note-taking, or rough draft printings.
* If you walk by an unoccupied conference room or office, switch off the lights. If you’ll be away from your office more than ten minutes, turn yours off, too.
* Encourage your purchasing department to use suppliers that will take back their hazardous, recyclable or reusable products at the end of their use.
* Recycle your own empty printer, copier and fax cartridges. Empty laser and inkjet cartridges can be refilled or remanufactured several times. To find businesses that collect, remanufacture and resell empties, look up “Computer Supplies and Parts.” Or you can go here and here.
Remember --
Every little bit makes a world of difference.
