Jewelsong is an eclectic women's vocal ensemble who share the joy of music through inspirational songs from many different spiritual traditions.
The members are an astonishing ensemble of talent and experience, featuring the glorious Betsy Bickel, Farrunnissa Lila Rosa, Marilyn Grubbs, and Sofianna Sue-Anne Solem. The women of Jewelsong have been musicians most of their lives and have been singing together since 2002.
Jewelsong was born on the beautiful NC Outer Banks at a Dances of Universal Peace retreat in 2002. The women emerged like Venus from the sea of "the beauty we love," to quote a phrase from a poem by Sufi mystic Rumi. That phrase became the title of their first CD.
All their music is either completely original, or their own unique arrangement. Jewelsong's performances are a gift of love, so they only sing music that delights and moves them. Their work is inspired by nature, sacred texts, other songwriters, life, and by their own rich imaginations and life experiences.
Their performances are a joyful celebration of harmonies, with uplifting messages of unity and peace, and the great Dance of Life.
Jewelsong's members all sing, as well as play other acoustic instruments. They are Betsy Bickel, who plays the 6- & 12-string guitars, tar (Middle Eastern frame drum), dumbek (Middle Eastern hand drum), ney (Middle Eastern flute),and other percussion. Marilyn Grubbs mesmerizes and delights with her Celtic harp, tar, and percussion; Farrunnissa Lila Rosa will awaken your soul with her playing of the tar, dumbek, other percussion instruments and keyboards; and Sofianna Sue-Anne Solem is a wizard of the recorder, tar, and other percussion.
Their CD is gorgeous and can be purchased by visiting here.
Even better, though, this month you have a rare chance to see Jewlsong perform live.
